This Bingo contingent from outta nowhere is starting to scare me a little.....

    J/K, bingo is harmless.
Bingo PEOPLE on the other hand, well.

Seriously though, I am going to join in on the thread-hijacking for a little story of my own. *deep breath*

My name is Texas Steph, and I used to play bingo. There, I said it. Whew!

Now, I haven't played bingo in ages. The last time was probably over 10 years ago, and I knew it was my last time because I was bored to tears. I was visiting my Mom and she wanted to go (as in, she didn't really have the funds and she knew I did) and so we went. We played, didn't win, she had fun, I was bored. Quality time and all, but I said no more.

    Anyways, that's not the story.

About 26 or 28 years ago, my then-husband and I took our 2nd trip to Vegas. We had little kids at home and not much money, but we needed a tiny vacation. My parents took the kids and we found some deal with Sun Country Air (something like that) that included a couple nights stay at Palace Station. We scraped together like $300 for spending money, and about half of that was rolls of quarters.
** For all you young(er) people, there were no TITOs or penny machines then. Quarter slots were what we would play**

We didn't do much on our 1st evening there, played a roll or two of quarters, ate, slept. On the 2nd day, we sat at a row of quarter slots, played awhile, and then I was going to play a session of bingo while the ex wanted to watch some TV in the room. I went into the bingo room, which was just 1 big room with lots of tables and the callers stand. I got in line to get my cards, and found out this wasn't the bingo I had played at home. There was no paper and daubers (and no, there were no computers to play on back then either). It was 1 set price, then head over to a large bin to select your "hard cards". One card was two bingo squares, with little window shades to cover up your number when it was called. We were allowed to take as many cards as we thought we could handle.

Well, I was used to lots of paper and a slow caller, so I grabbed a bunch. I found myself a spot near the callers stand, and spread out my cards. The "table" had a slight headboard-type thing, so people could spread the cards out flat and also prop them up against the headboard. As we waited for the session to start, I took a look around the room. I saw that most people had less cards then I did... quite a few less. Huh. Amateurs, I figured.

The session began, and I found out real quick that this caller didn't mess around. She called numbers faster than I was used to, and I couldn't keep up. I kept trying though, as I didn't want to get rid of the "lucky" card... and hey, more cards = a better chance to win, right??

As each bingo was called, I tried to go through the numbers to see if I had missed any before the game was over. I never had enough time to check them all, but figured I would just know if I had a bingo. Or not.
Finally, it was time for the last game, the Coverall. Keep in mind, this was my first time playing bingo in Vegas, and I was just doing my best to keep up... I had no clue as to the payout structure or anything. At this point, I was just ready for it to be over so I could have a break at a good 'ole slot!

The game started, numbers were called, and I was sliding window shades as fast as I could. After awhile, I noticed 1 card in particular had a lot of shades closed... and the next number out was on it, too. I took a quick glance at the card, then up to the board of numbers, and found another one I had missed. The next number was called, and I had that one too. I needed 1 more for the coverall!
At this point, I abandoned the rest of my cards as I knew the game was coming close to being over... it had to be, cause if I was this close then so were alot of other people.
    Next ball out, not mine.
    Next ball out, omg. Mine.
I was a little nervous, certain that someone would yell bingo before the caller said my number... nope, she called my number. I waited 2 seconds, 3 seconds, the room was still quiet and no one had yelled, so I did.
    BINGO!
The room erupted. People were being louder than usual after a bingo, and no one was getting up to leave. An usher came over to verify my card...and then another, and another. There were noisy whispers up at the callers stand. What is all this fuss about?

A lady on the next row leaned over towards me, and said "do you know what you just won?" I must have looked like a newbie as it started to dawn on me that this was an unusual win. I said "no, this is my 1st time here" and she said "I'm pretty sure you just won $2000". Holy hell. No way.

It seems that I hit the Coverall in only 48 numbers. Today, if a Vegas Stations casino Coverall gets hit in 48 numbers, that win would be much, much higher.

Back then, $2000 was a HUGE deal to me and the ex. We went and had a nice steak and lobster dinner that night, and when we got home we paid a bunch of bills, haha!

Coverall in 48 I think was 20,000 at Palace Station. So yeah.. It's a really big deal. Even when the pot isn't high, we all know how hard it is and would have had a huge murmur. That's pretty sweet. Here are the bingo pots at stations.. that would fall under 15k prograesive coverall http://www.stationcasinosbingo.com/

I ended up playing slots all day the last day and tired on top of exhausted kicked in.
Snowed in Calgary yesterday so flights were delayed all over because of de-icing... in september hahaha. I was actually winning slots at the airport! I left up 300 (from there:p)
Overall I actually had a really good trip. I hope I can get my iron firgured out before we go back in 2 weeks. Even when you aren't going anywhere it really is a lot of walking. And I did better at eating this time, but not enough. Finally ate at The Henry.. and Momofuku .. the salad thing with the palm hearts was AMAZING.

If I am ever in town for a bingo meetup, I would totally be down. And you can always hijack my threads for bingo stories!!! There's 'bingo after dark' the weekend I go back at Palace Station .. I'm hoping I can get the hubby and hi coworkers to go.. I dunno though. I did it once at Red Rock and it was a blast. THey turn the lights off, you only play on machines, they give you glowsticks and turn the music up to bar level. The bingo goes and since you cant hear anything you have to jump up and dance with the glow sticks to bingo. (That's how it worked at red rock). was very fun.

Oh and here’s pics of the bingo brochure at Palace. It should give you an idea of what it costs to buy in.

We did the $58 packages with some extra cards on progressives. We were going hard. Came to $77. You do not need to play that much. All the smaller electronic packages look good too.

This is their bingo event flyer. I won’t make it in October. I’ll have already been 3x and I usually go twice a year. I’ll get the one after Christmas, but I’m doing this next time instead of power bingo. That was an unforgivable mess to me.

So glad to hear you had a good trip (minus the exhaustion)! Sorry you didn't hit big at bingo, but hopefully it will happen for you in 2 weeks!

Thanks for the Trip Report, and for the hijacking!

I'm still really mad about the bingo. Thankfully it didn't seem like the players really took it out on the staff. It wasn't their fault, but it really feels like management hung them out to dry with the bullshit 'free buffet' (after we already had 6 of them) and doing nothing the second day. On top of not training them well enough on the stupid card changes. Seems pretty disrespectful to all the very nice people working there. As well as to all the players. We travel from all over and it isn't cheap to go to these things.. bingo players tend to be cheap and this is not. South Point's will sell out in 2 days and these guys are still selling at the door. This kind of crap doesn't help. I need to go freak out on their facebook page or something. Maybe after a good sleep. I'm a mess and my head hurts. Woooo Vegas! hahaha.
I don't think for a second that South Point would have screwed us over like this. They love giving us free play and extras already. They would have made a real effort to make it right. (I'm not that confident about Stations, but they haven't screwed me over yet), I did the small $125,000 one at Red Rock and it was decent, and we had box lunches. I also doubt their buffets are as bad as Gold Coast's was. The box lunch is a sandwich, chips, apple, and cupcake usually. And it's delivered to your seat, not standing in a huge buffet line with all the other bingo players. We also get 2 free buffets with the box lunch at the others.

Did I show you that Cosmo sent chocolate to my room?? I was so awwwwwww
And here's the view looking the other way at Cosmo. I was in Chelsea Tower. Cosmo customer service was exceptional again. I think that helped me stay in a pretty good mood for the trip. I love them so hard. haha.

Enjoyed your report and all the details about Bingo.

Years ago I used to play at Harrah's cash games - pay as you go - I'm talking way back.....

Station buffets >>>>>> Gold Coast Buffet

Gold Coast buffet is one of the worst I've had in Vegas over 20 trips. GVR's buffet was particularly on point this last trip. We both enjoyed it a lot.

Good to know. I'm not super swanky about food. I tend to prefer home style food.. like that spaghetti was sooo good. But damn that gold coast buffet was bad. ugh. I was gagging on the eggs and eggs is one of the few things that have been making me feel better. I don't mind south point's buffet.

My husband always naps out there and there was one night when he didn't make it back in until sunrise. He's lucky I left the door unlocked. LOLOLOL

I can't do it myself, unfortunately. I start looking at the landscape and get too excited.

I think I spent about 10 minutes in my room not sleeping or bathing this whole trip. I go out there and I'm like "vegas!!!!" and back down I go hahaha. I really like the mountains on this side, but it was really stinking hot. No shade. I haven't been to Vegas when it's hot before.

I posted on the Gold Coast page about the power bingo thing. They deleted it. I'm wondering if I should actually contact the gaming commission about the Coverall. We are all positive they dropped the balls back into the blower before they picked the last two numbers. That would be a big irregularity they should check out isn't it? The balls were blowing when the O was in the the window. Then they all stopped. Then they manually re-added the called numbers and the window ball came up and it was a G.. (and the ball bin looked really full) They are really not addressing this at all.

Great story, sounds like you have been going to vegas as long as I have. My current wife had a similar experience on a cruise ship. It was her first ever bingo experience and we were on the last big game and they made anyone with two or less stand up. She hit it and showed me. I said yell BINGO so she whispered. I said louder and finally yelled it for her. She was so shocked to actually win something.

Bingo contingent...I love it. The night bingo sounds fun. Your entire trip sounded fun, minus the bingo glitches. I have zero advice about what to do-I hope it gets worked out.

I know that feeling. I wake up often during the night.....normally go back to sleep. When I’m in Vegas, I TRY to go back to sleep, but my mind whispers, “There’s a casino downstairs...”, and I’m wide awake. So, down I go...4 a.m. I love it.
