Early morning flights are the best and then a trip to the spa to relax and get adjusted to the time difference so I can stay awake through dinner. Usually it works.

I'm usually booking my flights around my work schedule. I worked all night then flew out immediately after work for Spring Fling. Bad idea. I was beat by 6 pm. Next time I'll book an afternoon flight so I can get some rest before leaving.

We've always taken the 8AM flight out that arrives before 9:30 in Vegas. Takes about an hour from touchdown to hotel if we rent a car. Can usually get early check-in on weekdays.....certainly by noon. Unpack, get situated maybe hang by the pool. Helps us ease into day 1. Last several times have taken the red-eye back home. Leaves at 11:55 and arrives at 5:30 with the time change. We live on the opposite side of Minneapolis from the airport, so afternoon/evening flights can mean traffic delays.

I like to leave AUS mid afternoon, that lets me work til about 11 so I can weed through emails and get a few things done. We normally take the first nonstop home so we're home before the puppy spa closes and we can get the dog. Many times we take the last nonstop flight out of Austin, which is fine when it's at 5 or 6 but sucks when it's after 8!

I've had a mix of flights over the years and have came away with the following:

Getting there: Land as close to 2pm as possible. By the time I get to the hotel, it's close to 3pm and I can check in. I'll have my room and can either hit the pool or go gamble a little before dinner. Did exactly this last time and I loved it. Felt like I got the most out of a travel day. I've gotten in to Vegas as late as 11:30pm and I feel it's just a waste of a day. I guess it's good if you can avoid taking a vacation day and fly out late for that reason.

Coming home: Without a doubt, take a flight after noon. Yes, it seems the early flights allow you to get through security quicker, but it kills the final night for me. Last time I flew home at 7:30am...I was at the airport at 5:30am. I was back in my room the last night at midnight knowing I would need to leave the hotel at 5am. Just way too early for Vegas. For the flight in July, I fly out at 2:20pm. Can get in a few hours at the pool, brunch, take time packing...relax. Probably won't gamble, but the opportunity exists. I'm thinking I'll do the same flight home in September.

Prefer to arrive at noon or 1 - that requires a flight around 8 am or 9 am from the East Coast (either nonstop or 1 stop no plane change). I can handle being at the airport at 6:30 vs getting up at 3:30 for an earlier flight. Leaving Vegas I prefer an 11 a.m. or noon flight for the same reason of not having to get up so early, but arriving back east at a reasonable time.

I'm kind of limited coming out of New York, since I really only fly AA, and there are only a couple nonstops a day (plus, more importantly, I refuse to fly out of LGA these days, given that the construction has turned the place into an absolute hellscape). One leaves around 7:30am and gets in around 10:30am, the other leaves around 6:30pm and gets in around 9:30pm. I'd prefer something in the middle, but given the choice, I usually go with the early flight, since I'd rather not first be getting to the hotel at 10pm or later, and the later flights are often more subject to delays.

On the way back, I try to take the 11:30am flight out that gets back to NYC around 7:30pm, but I've had bad luck the last couple trips with them randomly switching me to the 7:30am flight. Agreed that a flight that time means you have to get to the airport at the crack of dawn, and it completely ruins the previous night.

We took the early flight out of Milwaukee this last time and that was nice but landing in Vegas at 830 there were no rooms ready which sucked. So I would say a flight that gets me there by 3 so I know I will have a room when I get there. Mid morning flight home would be ideal but usually its either the ass crack of dawn or the zombie flight home.

My flight to Vegas just depends on my schedule and if I need to be there to register for anything.

I will always try to take one of the later afternoon flights(typically between 5:50 and 6:30 PM) home so it is never in the back of my mind that I have to worry about getting up.

09h45 flight out of Toronto on a Sunday usually, gets me to the hotel usually at around 12h00. At that time it doesn't take long to get through security at Pearson so its a pretty relaxed departure, and if the room isn't ready by the time I have lunch and gamble a little bit it is, so no big deal.

Flight home is usually a noon flight, which allows me to sleep in, and miss most of rush hour traffic getting out of Toronto when I arrive home.

I've got it pretty easy flying out of Reno, as there are several daily flights (55 minutes in the air) direct to Las Vegas with most continuing on elsewhere. I'm not much for the 5-7 a.m. flights, as I still need to drive 45 minutes or so down from north-shore Tahoe. I prefer to fly out around the 8-9 a.m. time frame. Inside of an hour after landing, I'm in a rental vehicle and on my way to a meeting, usually a lunch meeting. After that, say around 2 p.m. I swoop on in to the Hard Rock. I have fun that night, then will usually do another meeting or two the following day, stay that night (more fun) and head out the next day.

Again, I'm no fan of the super early flights out. I try to pick something between 10 a.m. and noon. Past history has taught me that that late afternoon/ early evening planes (Southwest) have a greater probability of being late. Either those whacky Vegas monsoon type storms or flights that hop from place to place just coming in later throughout the day. Also seems to me the general mood or ambiance of McCarran is better mid-morning. Too early and you're around those who've pulled all-nighters and figure to sleep on the plane or those who should've just stayed up and are all pissy, cause they had to get up so early after a hard night. The travelers that fly out early evening seem to be burnt from having a BIG last night, "cause I don't fly out till 5 p.m.!!!", then they're outta there room by noon or 1 p.m. with a long wait.

My exact thoughts. Taking a 7 am flight from CT to Vegas in July that will get in around 9:30. I've been lucky to always have a room ready at every MLife property I've stayed at thus far. It's great to have the entire day, but it makes for a very long day when you've already completed a 5+ hour flight before 10 am local time... haha.

Prefer the early morning flights since I am up everyday @4:00am due to my dam internal alarm clock. also other reasons that come from getting old. Also found that the earlier flights normally have far fewer departure delays. I can handle not having a room ready because there is so much to do to keep myself and wifey entertained waiting for our temporary abode to be available. Coming home prefer a mid afternoon departure so we can have a leisurely late breakfast and give the tables one more shot to strike it rich.

I like to fly as early as possible as there's less likelihood for delays. It also is usually easier to get first class with miles in advance, since particularly on weekdays a lot of the flights are business people waiting to get upgraded with status. I have to connect now as there are no more early morning direct flights from my airport, and none at any time on any of the airlines I have all my miles on. So while my preference is earliest available flight, 6 am is a little too early sometimes but I definitely aim to depart my home airport before 8 am if at all possible. Depending on how off the direct flight path my connection is and layover times, without delays I can end up in Vegas as early as 9:30 am. On all my trips to Vegas the only delay I ever had was due to a ground stop at McCarran due to rain.

Even with getting there early I can usually get in my room right away. I've only had to check bags twice....once it was stupid and for like 1/2 hour in the end, and the other time was when I arrived the AM where everyone was checking out after CES and I wanted a particular room type so I had to wait a few hours. I normally dump my bags, play, eat, walk around to stretch my legs and when I get tired I go sleep. On my solo trips I don't have much set in stone schedule wise so there's been times I've gone to sleep at 6 PM Vegas time, woken up around 2 AM and kept going from there the entire next day.

Going home I like to leave in the morning but not too early, and time my arrival home for early evening so DH can come pick me up at the airport. I used to always drive myself and park, like I do for business travel, but back when we had the direct flight the times were so convenient for him to just drop me off and pick me up that we started doing it this way. It is easier because I normally end up staying up all night the night before my flight, and if I don't have to drive I don't have to worry if I end up not being able to sleep on the plane or when I had my last cocktail. In case he can't come get me I would take a cab but so far this hasn't happened.

The flight time for the flight to Vegas would be perfect for me. I like to arrive early and then leave late.

I like to arrive in Vegas around noon - 1 pm. Late enough my room is usually ready, and early enough you don't have to deal with the huge lines of peeps checking in. Worst case the room isn't ready and I just kill a couple hours eating a nice lunch

Preferably mornings, 7:00-8:00 to ensure a full day in Vegas. But, I think that it’s more important to get a direct flight out of the CLE.
