My mom is currently in Vegas, Gold Coast specifically, and the talk of the town down on that end is that Rio will be imploded to make way for the potential MLB stadium. This sorta jives with general rumors, ie: huge Palms renovations, Rio being sold, etc.

It makes sense if the plan is really to build a baseball stadium down there. She also said they're all talking like MLB they're is a done deal which I'm not exactly sure is true. 3 major sports teams would be a big deal for a city that size.

At this point that's probably the best thing to do with it TBH. The property is in such disrepair restoring it would be cost prohibitive.

Re: The MLB rumors. I think Vegas is on such a hot-streak right now with pro-sports teams that ANY rumor is considered a "done deal".

I heard the same thing from my host and the pit staff at Red Rock. I’m surprised they’d do this before they better understand the draw of the new stadium they are building for the 51s in Summerlin and to see how the Raiders do when they come. There was a study done several years ago and based on the demographics of Vegas, thought it could only sustain 1 professional sports team. An MLB team would be the third to hit the town.

Size wise, hockey is much smaller too VGK ended up with a great start so that helped grow them quickly in the local AREA. MLB and NFL stadiums are probably 3 times more capacity each. NFL stadium would almost certainly be 60k plus capacity where MLB I guess would at least be close to the 40k range. That's a lot more butts in seats and infrastructure needed for those ventures

So is the MLB team going to be a relocation or expansion? With the NHL team, they are really hitting hard on the "Vegas Born" theme to combat the NFL team which is the outcast from another city.

If the Marlins move to Vegas they can’t do any worse than the 10k avg per game they get now can they?

This is a pretty good article from the LV Review Journal on the issue. Expansion is the most likely choice (MLB wants to get to 32 teams to balance the divisions) but Tampa Bay or Oakland (wouldn't that be a kick in the gut) are possibilities if they can't get new stadiums.

Las Vegas Remains high on MLB Expansion list.

81 MLB home games a year during the warm months may be a stretch.
I have always liked going to 51's games at Cashman Field North of downtown during longer stays during the summer. Mostly as a diversion from the casinos.
    Relaxed, roomy and relatively cheap.
Not sure why the new stadium at Red Rock would be a go if this was in the works. Who knows, though.
One of my local friends said that the new Red Rock facility is rumored to be "expandable" to an MLB ready/sized facility, which I find hard to believe.

I'm not familiar with the park you're talking about but I'd think MLB ready would need at least 35k plus seats. Can't imagine any non mlb stadium is anywhere near that size

I agree Goldenknight. The park under construction at Red Rock is only 10,000 seats or so.
This will replace Cashman Field for the AAA team, and last I heard was to open April 2019.
