It was 20 years ago today. Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. they'd been goin in & out of style, and their guaranteed to raise a smile, so let me introduce to you...…………………………………………………….. Well 20 years ago,,,,,, let's go back 20 years ago pre 9-11...……….. who would have dreamed that one would have to take their shoes off to board an airplane flight????????? Who would have dreamed that all of our luggage and bags would be searched at airports and large public gatherings.???? And bottled water banned pre TSA check, and many other changes we've absorbed into our new society framework... There have been many changes in broad general society that we now adapt to as a society after 9-11...... After this pandemic what changes do you visualize will become a fabric of our society for decades to come.???? be well folks...
I think we could end up seeing thermal scans in airports. Which makes sense because that’s the easiest way covid or any other virus can travel long distances quickly. It would be tough to enforce for say land travel by personal car and such. Plus it’d get a bit invasive. With the proliferation of social media these days I think the equivalent of the 9/11 Truther will be amplified. Technology is a blessing and a curse. Getting the message out, information at our fingertips is amazing but there is a lot signal noise. Misleading narratives and gas lighting. People that would normally be rational educated people are now doubting themselves without realizing the gas lighting. Ok rant over.....
This is only tangentially related, but I have original vinyl presses of Sgt. Pepper, Meet the Beatles, Rubber Soul, and Abbey Road in my office. I was basically raised by my grandmother, and she used to just park me in front of a record player with Beatles albums when I was growing up.
Minor, but I’ll bet people will keep more groceries on hand. At least paper products, cleaners and canned goods.
Utah supposedly has some sort of version of this -- they have checkpoints at entrances to the state. It's going to get complicated because "fever" is somewhat mutable. I tend to run cold for some reason, usually averaging about 95-96, so 98 is elevated for me but totally normal for most.
I miss the days before social media, when you knew insane people existed, but you thought it was a small number because you weren't running into them ALL THE TIME.
Got both the stereo and mono pressings of Sgt Peppers. Might even have a 70’s or 89’s era pressing too, those were crap. The records are so thin. Original pressings or the new 180g type of releases are the way to go.
Yeah, I have them framed. I'm pretty sure a record needle would slice right through them at this point.
