    Nothing terribly exciting
This is my first TR at VF. I did a live one on another forum which is kind of fun since I was solo. It gave me something to share with some like minded people.

Last year was my first trip Downtown since the mid 1990's. I stayed in an El Cortez Tower room and didn't like the room at all because of problems with the plumbing, AC and the bed. I thought I wouldn't be back to El Co, but they offered me 3 comped nights in a Cabana Suite Super plus some food and free play. I reserved three nights checking in on Thursday 3/2 and checking out on Sunday 3/5. The Cabana Super is the largest of the Cabana suites from what I understand, but it really doesn't compare to the modern suites at the Strip hotels.

The flight from SFO to LAS was smooth. Here are some pictures looking back at SFO. The second has SFO in the foreground and the City in the background. The third is the snowy Sierra Nevada Mountains. Finally is a video of the Strip as we're landing.

I played Video Poker, either BP or DDB, at Plaza, The D, El Co, 4Q & MSS. I did slots at pretty much the same places plus GN. The only $1 slot I played was Top Dollar at GN which was actually a money vacuum in disguise. I played blackjack at El Co. Video disclaimer...I've never recorded slot play before, and I was only betting $1.00 or less so you won't see any big wins. Seeing @Evoni and @BrianChristopher and other slot videos were definitely a motivation to record some bonuses. I was really worried about security approaching me, but that never happened. I didn't post everything because, well, winning $12 isn't all that exciting, but I probably recorded 20 times.

Thursday night's dinner was as Oscar's: Old Fashioned, Crazy Phil's Onion Soup, 8oz Filet topped to caramelized onions, side of asparagus, house Cab. It was all very good! I liked the view even though I wasn't sitting next to the window.

Second best hit of the trip happened at Omaha Bar at Plaza Thursday night.
    Straight Flush at.jpg

I had a good time playing Monte Python Holy Grail at Plaza. I thought it was a lot of fun and left up a little bit.

World of Wonka at Plaza swallowed up $100 pretty fast. Not a fan of that game.

I also played some 88 Fortunes at Plaza and walked away even or up a little.

At the new El Cortez bar I was playing Bonus Poker. The older guy sitting next to me was cursing away and pounding the buttons on his machine. I made a nice comment to him about talking to machines. He said it happens when he has too much to drink. Then "bam" he got his 4 Aces. So silently I was cursing away at my machine and holy shit if I didn't get 4 Aces just 10 minutes later! This was my second best win of the trip.

Friday, the Mint 400 contingency took over Fremont Street. Fun for off road racing fans.

Lunch was at Pizza Rock. Brooklyn Calzone because I wanted some spinach in my diet. Actually, I've never had a Calzone before and wanted to try it. I had their meatballs last year which are delicious. I was tempted to get the meatball sub this trip, but I wanted to try something different. It was yummy!

Friday night I ended up dropped $300 at triple play bonus poker at MSS. I played for a long time, but not enough 4OKs to keep up. I did spend the whole time playing next to a retired guy from Chicago who comes to Vegas or Reno probably at least 2 or 3 times a month. He had some great stories.

Another one of my new favorite games is Game of Thrones! Unfortunately, the only decent bonus, I accidentally deleted. I lined up a bunch of John Snows in The Wall bonus.

Saturday I did a Neon Museum tour. I recommend doing it if you haven't. Lots of great signage history. It was a $7 Lyft ride from Fremont St and $19 for the tour, but be sure to make reservations first. Everything was sold out and walk ins were getting turned away. I intended to merge some sign pics with V and an F into one pictures and post it, but I don't have the knowhow or the software to do that. I'm sure someone else here has thought of that already anyhow.

Saturday's lunch was at Magnolia's at 4Q. First time there. I like their seating overlooking the casino floor. Nice of your solo because it gives you something else to look at besides your phone. Same type of seating at Chicago Brewing Co. I had the country fried steak dinner with mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy which was great! It came with nice house salad.

Saturday night I wanted to eat at Therapy, but it was too busy. I ended up at La Comida. A little trendy for Mexican food in my opinion but it was good and the service was great. The young bartender, Mario, seemed like a genuinely nice friendly person. I had a Guava Margarita which is probably the best margarita I've ever had. The chips and salsa were great. I can't pronounce the name of the dish I had, but it was carne asada over a bed of potatoes, green and red bell peppers and onions, topped with a mushroom sauce and cilantro. No overpowering flavors, just good food. It came with rice and beans.

Saturday night started out unlucky at 4Q DDB but the cocktails were stong. Later it went nicely on slots and blackjack at El Cortez, but after that it was all downhill. I finished hard losing another $300 at 50 cent BP/DDB in a short session at the casino bar.

On Thursday night and Saturday night I got late night take out from Siegel's 1941. The wedge salad with red onion, tomatoes, bacon and blue cheese dressing was great. The regular cheeseburger was well, a cheeseburger. The BLT was really good, and I like the skinny french fries there.

That about wraps it up. I had a losing trip, but fun none the less. Good foods that I haven't tried before. I try to depart from what I'd normally order at home when I'm in Vegas. I'll be back next month at Cosmo with my beautiful wife. Hopefully in November I'll have another downtown or Reno solo trip.

I'll leave you with what looked like a promising bonus but turned out rather different. I love Wonka 3RM, but the one at 4Q killed me last year and again this year. I've had good luck with that game on the Strip and at GN, but the one at 4Q hates me. Thanks for reading!

Really enjoyed reading your TR. I'll be looking to hit Pizza Rock next time I'm downtown. Also, excited to see the Monty Python slot. And I love a win, no matter what the bet!

Great TR! Sorry you lost but that was an entertaining read.

Agreed on the Wonka bonus though. (Sad Trombone)

Very enjoyable trip report, thanks for posting. It's been years since I've been downtown and never stayed there. I'd like to try it sometime but can't pull the trigger being the comp slut I am.

Loved the report and definitely putting Magnolia's lunch on the list while we are downtown. Eating and watching people play is fun for me.

I still chuckle every time I watch it. My mindset was, "Hey I actually might get the top $40 prize." Then it was "Oh, come on!!! Whatever!!" And this was just after a Fizzy Lifting Drink bonus where I got $0. When you get nothing in a bonus, the game automatically gives you $5 as a consolation.

    Enjoyed your report!
Like you, I also enjoy playing downtown, especially at MSS and the bars at 4Queens. GN hoovers my cash every time so I've stopped playing there.

Thanks for sharing I enjoyed reading your TR and seeing your photos. So glad that when you were recording your slot play they didn't stop you. Sounds like they might not care about recording at El Cortez.
