Ive been a mid to high end collector of Sportscards since the mid 90s. With the recent shutdown of live sporting events, there has been a serious influx of $$ being poured into the sports card market. From being used as new investment vehicles, crypto currency offset of funds and simply people finding a new hobby.

Wondering if anyone else on these boards is into collecting?

I’ve got some open boxes of Upper deck, donruss and Score back home in storage. Maybe I’ll open them one day as a nostalgic trip.

I was into the card board crack a few years ago. Mostly NFL cards. It was great fun. More expensive than a bad gambling habit though. Buy a pack 5 or 6 cards for well over a hundred bucks depending on the brand. I learned not to open your new pack at the card shop. If I didn't get the "hit" I was hoping for, I'd buy another pack. Had to give it up. I have more fun with slot machines.

Sports cards are blowing up for a number of reasons. When Asian started chasing 90's high end basketball cards, it drove those to new heights. Everyone is looking for the next Tom Brady and Mike Trout, and speculators are pushing the values of key cards and rookies through the roof.

Add in the crazy prices being had on graded cards, which really blew up thanks to the PSA set registry, and you have a big bubble right now.

I sold my football card collection for about $75K 2 years ago. It just became too tedious looking for stuff constantly. And the price of wax got way out of hand from when I started in 2000.

Now, a collector still has to collect! I just moved on to doing more with memorabilia. I like living with my stuff, and when i had cards they just sat locked up in a bunch of safes. I like to find things cheap to get signed, or make my own custom stuff and get it signed in person. Which is tough right now due to COVID.

Here are some pics of my Man Cave. Would love to see what you all have as a setup as well!

I remember the story you had about clearing out the Toys R Us that was going out of business on one of your jaunts.

I'm in my early 40's and collected so many cards in my youth in the late 80's / early 90's. I probably had 12k and I just sold them all in March. I didn't want to but I have 2 daughters who will have no interest in them and I didn't know what else to do with them. It was a little sad. The ones in the pics were the most valuable. Had a mint Ricky Henderson rookie, mint Gwynn rookie, very good condition Santo rookie. I wanted a grand but knew that was a long shot. Settled for $450. They were worth more but I didn't want to sit on them for months and years, nor did I want to piecemeal them out. I had a cap gun collection from the 40's - late 50's that took me over a year to offload.
I can only imagine what kind of cards were in a 75k dollar collection.

I'm 100% with you! I can't collect cards with my girls. They simply don't give a shit. But, they do get a kick out of dressing up in their Bears gear and meeting players. It doesn't hurt that they usually get treated like royalty by the players.

They both tell the same story, and most players cant help but smile. The Big one "My name is Payton. I was named after the greatest running back ever" & the little one "And I'm Halas, just like the Papa Bear George Halas!

I could have sold my cards for way more, I'm just way too lazy to do so. I had a lot. Ended up cutting a deal with a dealer in Indiana (Baseball Card Exchange) and they backed a truck up to my old house, and took all the cards, safes, albums etc. Nice and easy
