Are any of these group slot pulls "all or nothing"? That is, no set time or amount played through, but just play until you hit some multiple of the buy in or go bust? Also, couldn't you hold the ROI constant just by increasing the denom/bet size? I would think the main advantage of pooling your money would be the thrill of playing at a level usually beyond your means anyway (even if in reality you only own a small part of the return).

I think we've tried all the ways to attack a slot group pull! VM, Packer and myself did one long ago with about $13,000 on the $100 denom games....never even got a line hit, it was pretty dreadful....and we played down to bust out! We've also tried reducing number of machines played, bouncing around, varying bet sizes etc. Because of past experience on the higher buy-ins like the $500, we'd like to see members get some $$ back while still getting a shot at the big jackpots. Once the money is played through and dispersed back, many will immediately congregate into a new team with a go big or bust rule from the money returned to create the new BR.

Wow, ok. As I think about it more, I guess I can see the wisdom in trying to avoid this kind of situation for a group pull... would be kind of a downer of a "spring fling"... haha.

Edit: That being said..... if you ever do plan something like that again, I am definitely in!!!

You guys are welcome to use my card. I will be getting a fresh card upon my arrival, so no risk of messing up any offers or w/e.

I've been off the board a bit lately, so I apologize if you already know this, but I wanted to be sure you knew that using your card typically means you are willing to take the tax hit (i.e. you'll have enough losses at the end of the year to cover the W2 so there are no taxes in the end). Sometimes it's up to a certain limit, like 20k or 50k or something.

This can be explained in more detail if needed (slot pull organizers make the rules, and they can vary), but I wanted to throw it out there. : D

    Looking forward to the fling

Since we will all be at the Pull, there is a way with the tax form to denote multiple winners sharing the prize? Everyone involved simply puts their information on the form as well. If we end up having multiple groups, the easiest/most timely way would be to have the form(s) pre-filled out w/ the information of each member within their respective group.

We have asked for this in the past. No casino will do it.

Seriously? That's 1 of the main purposes of the Form 5754. I have used it with friends in the past w/ CET, but we had to all be in attendance.

Forgive me in advance; it's 6am here and I just got off shift.

So how are taxes handled? I understand that you can itemize losses for the card holder, but say we win an extremely large amount. It doesn't make sense for the card holder to win the same AND have to pay the taxes while the other participants leave with their potion w/ no liability.

"I have my $100k, see you guys next time!" Hahaha. The mental image of someone skipping made me laugh pretty hard just now, lol.

I believe you can have the casino withhold the taxes up front before any payment is made.

What if you're not a resident of the USA? Would you be subject to tax at all ?

Depends if your country of residence has a tax treaty with the US. As a Canadian, there is a 30% withholding tax on slot wins >$1200..
UK residents do not have to pay withholding. I'm not sure about your situation.

OK Newmans, I'll check it out for my tax residency status. Thanks.

It appears that there's no treaty with Hong Kong for this type of income, so the withholding tax will apply. I guess my British passport doesn't count as I think the stipulation is RESIDENT in the jurisdiction you would be claiming from. So...I can't host the slot pull as I can't prove losses (though I can feel every one every year for the last 20 years....!!).

I guess I'll just need to stand next to you again against the craps table and wait for the next 5 point Firebet to come in for us!
