“When i read that article it seems to me that Steve Cyr says what the other hosts think but won't say out loud. We all know the casinos want to win. The host job is a sales job. He is there to win players money and unlike others doesn't try to hide it.”

I absolutely agree - even as a low roller, hosts are ‘happy’ to come around and glad hand when you’re winning early in the trip, but more happy when they comp you on the back end after your healthy loss. (If you actually win....” well your play just covered the already front ended room...comps, etc)” ....guess everyone has to make a living.

Yeah, like someone else said, it's important to remember that hosts are not your friend.

That bring said, he does seem like a jerk but he is pretty entertaining.

I'm working on a fictional novel where Vegas gets so slow and desperate for business that Steve sleeps with Sonya and they produce a child who brings back the old Vegas everyone misses so much. The novel is titled: "The $20 Trick"

Just listened to Cyr on the Plaza's podcast. Dude is a hustler. Tells his clients straight up that he will win get their money eventually. Brutally honest.

Back in late Feb, early March, Steve Cyr was on the show 'To Tell The Truth'. It's the show with host Anthony Anderson and a panel of B List celebrities who ask questions and have to guess which of three people are telling the truth about their occupation. The topic was 'I am a Las Vegas Super Host'. It was a good watch.

I've read 'Whale Hunt in the Desert' about Steve Cyr. I was able to identify him on the TV show before he even sat down. Tried to find it on youtube to post here, but was unable to find it.

The book has some great insight into the unseen side of Vegas. Highly recommended.

I've read the book. I really enjoyed it. I also really like the one by Richard Wilk called Connected.... Vegas Style.

I've spoken to Steve on the phone before where he said he'd host me if I decided to stay at the Palms. This was pre-pandemic. He's actually quite fun to speak to as he really knows how to get you excited to go to Vegas. Getting back to the article, I think part of the intent with that write up is to portray him as insensitive to give the vibe that this can be the dark side if this business. Makes him look like a cut-throat beast where you need to be a certain type of person to be his client. However, in his podcasts scattered on youTube he's shown several times that he sympathizes for these gamblers who made these final decisions, which makes him more human when compared to the article. Don't get me wrong, not trying to defend him but sometimes the writers of these articles can have intent to leave a desired impression on the readers.
