No new updates on my 2019 return but received a letter stating my ITIN will be expire for 2020 return.

I guess IRS staffs are still working.

Still nothing new on my end. No new mail and still seeing 6 month message on WMR. Filed January 27, return is over 10K.

Just updated for me. 19 month turnaround. I consider that not too bad given the circumstances.

Out of curiousity - is there a deadline to file for this? I have one (~$400) from October 2020 and another (~$600) from October 2019 that I haven't gotten around to claiming. Is it still possible and worthwhile?

I believe it is still possible. The refund I'm receiving is from tax yr. 2019 and I didn't file it until Sept. '20. No penalty assessed.

For anyone who's curious, I just received my Cheque in the mail for tax year 2019. Amount was over 5K. My return was sent to examination department last November and for whatever reason was not worked on for months. I filed at the earliest possible time like end of January 2020 or so.

Around April this year I called them and went through the hoops to put things in motion. I spoke directly with the examination department case worker on my file. They ended up sending me a Form 4564 Information Document Request, asking me to submit additional documentation to prove my winnings and losses (which is a first for me), proof of residency, and all entry/exit dates in the States etc. I never had to do any of that in the past and was super annoying.

The big differences for me this time around was 1. the timing of it being during Covid which caused huge delays, 2. the examination department requesting all the additional information along with proof, and 3. this time I didn't use the assistance of the TAS (Taxpayer Advocate Service), which I did use for every past return.

Lastly I'll note that my tax return cheques in the past years were much higher (with one year being over 200K), whereas this one was relatively much less although still over 5K. Yet, this smallest return to date, caused me the most grief so far. Maybe it was due to Covid or maybe it was just bad luck of the draw! Either way I'm glad to move on.

Thanks for the update. I'm also stuck in the examination process.

It's freaking ridiculous.. I have all my paperwork and bookkeeping done properly and they still can't verify the amount I'm claiming and asking for more info

This is for 2019 and my 2020 is also on hold.

Is there a limit on how late after the fact you can file to claim this? We got lazy and haven't submitted the paperwork for my handpays that happened in 2019 and 2020. They're both small (~$600 and ~$400, respectively) but still I'd rather have another grand in my pocket than not. I haven't even submitted for an ITIN yet, so no clue how long that takes (or really, even how it works).

You got 3 years. Fairly straightforward process (think Vegaschic put something together here a long time ago that you should be able to find).
