Tesla's Cabin Fever Buster trip (Bellagio 2/15-2/18)

Midwinter in the US Northeast + staying home during the Omicron wave + work kicking my butt the last month = serious case of cabin fever. Everyone here knows a 3-night trip to Vegas should fix that right up though! This trip will be solo, unfortunately. Mrs. Tesla has work commitments but granted permission for me to take this trip ("you really need a break, go have fun for a few days") because she's awesome! Staying at my usual haunt, the Bellagio. Will mix in some time at the Aria and the Orleans. Orleans? Yeah, for the poker room.

Since I'll be solo, I'll be gambling a lot. My games of choice are live poker and blackjack with some pai gow tiles if I can find a game. Hopefully my cabin fever is the only thing that gets busted on this trip lol. I'm mixing in time off the tables with a massage, some nice 'dinners at the bar,' and browsing wristwatches up and down the Strip.

(Question for readers and maybe the mods: would people be interested in pictures and discussion of watches, or is that better in an offtopic thread? I'll have plenty of non-watch-related stuff to post, don't worry.)

It'll be interesting to see how the lifting of the Nevada mask mandate will work out. I did not expect that news and I'm feeling torn over it. I intentionally planned this trip for after the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day so crowds would be less. I'll have a mask with me at all times and am planning to keep it on more often than not. Not gonna lie though, it would be soooo nice to gamble and walk around sans mask, even a little bit of the time.

Nice morning at Logan Airport in Boston. Except for the part where it’s 11 degees F and I had to be up before dawn. Plane is here and flight is on time though.

Tapatalk is being flaky with uploading photos but I’ll give you a quick rundown on the day so far. The flight was smooth but took for freakin ever. Getting out of the airport and to the Bellagio was fast. It felt SO GOOD to walk through the front door. I’m sure we can all relate lol.

They had my room ready so I could dump off my bag, head back downstairs and make a spa appointment for tomorrow morning. Got some watch shopping done (with photos) and a walk outside. The weather is great: cool and sunny with a breeze.

On my way back into the Bellagio the blackjack table called my name. It’s a good thing I listened! Up a quick $550. Normally I would have stuck around but I hit the wall. I’m tired from a long day so taking a break in the room.

I stopped in the Omega boutique right outside the conservatory. I bought a watch there last fall and can say firsthand their customer service is great. Here’s a couple bits and pieces I tried on. Wristshots like this taken with a phone always make watches look big; I actually have normal sized wrists but these photos will make you think I’m thin as a rail.

First up is one of Omegas most popular current models: the white dial Seamaster. It’s a hot item in the online watch community but I hadn’t seen one in person until now. I loved it except for the escape valve thingy at 10 o’clock. That’s a big “except” when the price is close to $6k



Next up was the white dial Planet Ocean. It’s also a dive watch but even more rugged than the Seamasters. It’s a larger dial and thicker case. I can just barely pull it off but you kinda have to be a big dude to really rock it. I loved the orange bezel and accents though. Again really not a fan of the escape valve on the side.




Last up is the Speedmaster Chronoscope. This is a newer model that again I had seen online but not in person. Sorry I didn’t get a good wrist shot because I really liked this! I would have been tempted but I already own a Speedy.

One of the few upsides to waking up at 4am in Vegas is a quiet pit. I found a nice empty table to sit at for some blackjack time. This was a good session, very chill vibe. I was never up or down too much so no stress. The dealers and pit boss didn’t have a lot going on either so we all shot the breeze a little. Walked away up $525 and got some nice pictures of the conservatory at night on my way back up to the room.

I’m looking forward to that spa appointment later this morning. First I need to find some breakfast!
