Ok, the title is a bit dramatic but that was to draw interest and get some votes on my poll.

Would you be willing to sacrifice some recovery time for an extra 12 hours in Vegas? Would you be willing to stay up all night for an extra 12 hours in Vegas?

My answer is a resounding yes but when it came to purchase time, I bought the Saturday afternoon flight over the early Sunday morning flight. Go figure. Of course, they are with Southwest so they can be changed in a minute. Price difference is very minimal.

I like to leave around noon. I pack in the last day so bad and don't sleep. Noon lets me sleep, grab a coffee and get ready. Leaving that early, I'd miss my flight.. but i get extra time in Vegas .. grrr. I think it would depend the most on how long I'm going. If I have 4 nights already I will do that instead of pushing to 5. If I had 3 I'd push to 4.
I have ZERO issues leaving for Vegas on a 5 AM flight though hahahaha.

Sacrifice recovery time for extra time in Vegas? You betcha! Both of our return flights (Jan + May) are for late afternoon, getting home after 10pm... and having to work the next day.

Stay up all night for an extra 12 hrs in Vegas? Uh, no. Too old for that shit.

What dates did you just buy tickets for?

Heading out early in the morning was the original plan (after two late night flight delays on consecutive trips) but then I thought about how little sleep I would get, how pushy I would be to get us out the door etc. and decided to take the late night flight and get those extra LV hours. So our trip is already starting with me "buying time". As of now, it's Monday night-Saturday afternoon so that's 5 nights total with 4.5 days. If I change to Sunday wee morning hours, it will be 6 nights total with 5 full days.

This is my favorite kind of dilemma. :)

Guess you came here first instead of to your own thread. LOL Beginning of April...

And I'd say I'm also too old for that shit but I just did it the last trip. You can't sleep during a heater...

    Got me in..

I chose Saturday night. I will be up and gambling till 3 or 4 am anyway. Rather get there sooner.

If I had to get up at 3 am for the morning flight, that early time with time change would make it harder to stay up all night the 1st night.

More vegas time is better than less...

My big debate used to be whether to leave late afternoon or night to go to Vegas versus early morning. I’ve done the 6 or 7am departure and damn I’m drained by dinner time as I probably woke up around 3:30a meaning I likely only 4 or 5 hours of sleep. Now I get out of the office around 2p giving me plenty of time to pick up the gf from her office and get to the airport in plenty of time. We do a couple hours of gambol in LV and get a good night sleep in Vegas.

I'm also a moron I maybe didn't read your post and just went off the poll...

Ummm... I change my vote to #2. Cause even if you go to bed at 11PM it still gives you more time in vegas!

I actually had three leaving times this time I booked, one was 9 am, one noon ,and one 5 pm. 9 is too early, I will miss it. 5 I know I will go on a bender and spend way too much money, especially if I don't have a room. Noon is perfect. I tend to spend about $40 check out day just having a smoke and drinking my coffee and saying good bye to Vegas. Sigh.
Getting there it's always the flight that starts at 5 and gets me there before noon, but there's always a transfer on that, so on the rare occasion I get a direct flight I take that and it gets me there early evening but I'm only travelling for 3 hours.

also 6 days in Vegas kills me. No sleep, no food, too much noise. I'm a mess. We did that last year and it wiped me right out. And that was my only trip last year where I wasn't anemic hahaha

I never take an early flight home from Vegas. Too hard on me lol

I don't mind an early flight TO Vegas, but I generally prefer to land there right around 1 pm if it works out.

I did a 7am flight home once in 2013....never again!!! Had a great last day until I ate, ruined the last night for me because I fell asleep after dinner. I do anything/ everything now to avoid leaving early.

I would go on the Sunday early flight...but that is because I have a 4 hour time difference and that puts me back on track to go to work the next day if I get up early to leave....I have stayed up all night once and got an early morning flight and I wanted to die....was not fun, so I would get a good day drink going on Saturday and get to bed earlish and head out the next morning.

No question - push it until early the next morning. Stay up all night and crash on the plane

My last trip to Vegas I was set to do a red eye home. My connection was cancelled due to weather and so my Vegas flight was rebooked for early the next morning with a new connection. I luckily had booked an extra night on my room already so I did not have to spend all day the last day with no room in case I wanted to nap. I ended up gambling for half the extra time and napping for the other half. I enjoyed that a lot better than the red eye and I was still tired enough to be able to successfully nap on the plane. So next time I will probably do the same :)

It's not always fun, but we take the early morning flights back home. Being on the East Coast, it helps when we're back to work the next day.

That's why we were originally looking to come home on Saturday - get that full day of rest before Monday begins. Getting in at 1pm cuts that time in half... But what is time in Baltimore worth compared to time in Vegas?!? Think I'll flip a coin and go with it. Does anyone have Harvey Dent's coin? (before he became Two Face) :)

On our next trip February we are taking an early flight out of Austin 6:30ish - yikes. The early Out flights are hard on me. But it was $61 on SW. We live over 1 1/2 hours away. My former Marine has a policy. Early is on time and on time is late. Lots of wildlife on the winding hill country roads. We would be leaving our house at 2 AM to ensure we are there for check in at 4 AM. I cashed in some AMEX points for a $100 Hilton Card and will stay in Austin the night before- at a Hampton close to the Airport. However I agreed to be on call at work Fri night- which means I will probably work. So Sat I have to get my shit together get the weenies to the pet resort/jail by 12 noon and get to Austin. It seems I’m always burning the candle at both ends.

Coming back a 9 am flight- it was also $61. Get into Austin around 1:20 pm- hopefully before too much traffic. I don’t require a full nights sleep but my body doesn’t tolerate an all nighter any more.

I too thought it was arriving to Vegas flight - so changed my vote

Leave Vegas Saturday night would work for me as long as it wasn't the red eye - too old for that.

I know you're talking about pulling an all nighter, but I'm in the go to bed fairly early on the last night and get up early to go home group. I just go hard early in the trip so I'm worn out at the end!! Actually, I need the recovery time with the time change coming back. Doesn't help that I get up about 5am for work, plus the hour driving from BWI back home.
