This is our first trip of 2019, after 4 trips in 2018.We are Bobby 79 (BW) & Martie 63 (MJ) residing in Smithville, Texas (18 months), & flying out of Bergstrom IA, Austin, Texas. In our 24 years we have been to Las Vegas 50 + times & were married at The Little Chapel By The Courthouse on Sept 29, 2001.

    Transportation

Used Super Shuttle Execucar to & from Airport, yep it is a little pricey, but it starts off & ends our trip worry free & in a relaxing mode. Their drivers are efficient & courteous. Flew Southwest Airlines round trip, for the fantastic price of $245 for 2 & even adding $100 for early bird at $345 this is the best price we have seen in 10 years. This flight was booked on line Dec 19, 2018. Attaboy for BW for being a little weird by checking every day on line 4 different airlines for the best airfare to Vegas, another weird checking by phone Checking balance. We use Personal Sedan Inc from Vegas airport to The D & return. Personal Sedan ok nothing special, ,will evaluate before next trip.

    Lodging

Staying at The D, fully comped 3rd floor room 301, rooms are ok, but are getting a little worn, here I am griping about a free room, you lose your attaboy BW. All of the emplyees at The D are helpful & courteous, we lovem.

    Food

As we have mentioned in the past we are not foodies, & our tastes are very simple & not fancy,we had $150 free food in downtown casinos & several bogos . We ate at The Grill, MC Ds, American Hot Dogs at The D, Magnolias at 4 Queens, & Seagals at El Cortez, only paid for 2 meals. food ok, Magnolias best of bunch.

    Las Vegas

We particular me, love Las Vegas, enjoy the planning, preporation,& the excitement really ramps up when our butts hit the seat on the plane, flying into Las Vegas at nite.pushes it up another notch & riding to your hotel in a Limo pegs it at overload. "God help me I love it"

    Derek Sightings

Saw him almost every day at the Long Bar hanging out with Gang, especially on nites when Golden Knights were playing, did not have chance to visit with him, maybe next trip.

    Gambling

This trip I would rate the gambling as POOR , with us only returning with about 50% of our gambling budget.BW gambled VP 65% Craps 30% slots 5%, MJ VP 60% slots 40% This trip we hit 0 Royals ( over 3 years for both of us) 14 4 of a K, 2 straight flushes, 2 nice slot hits compared to Dec 2018 24 4 of K, 2 St flushes & 2 nice slot hits, Sept 2018 21 4 of K, 2 St flushes & 4 nice slot hits, June 2018 26 4 of K, 2 st Flushes, & 4 big slot hits., not complaining, just stating facts, enjoy it but would like a little more luck, but gonna keep on keeping on. BW had 4 craps sessions at The D & 4 Q, 2 winning & 2 losing sessions, even steven..Had one nice roll by BW, thoroughly enjoyed it, super vibe when playing but at my age my skinny legs get tired & 2 hours is the limit. BW & MJ walk around on slots had terrible results this trip, but it was different .

    Miscellaneous

We visited Bugsys Bar to see a long time friend of 20 years a fantastic bartender Big Steve, we have enjoyed our time spent with him. He is retiring in 4 months but is staying in Vegas so we can continue to visit with him, that is very good news.

    Random Thoughts

*next trip probably Sept for anniversary & college football hello parlays
    * Searching airfares now
*Probably split time between The D & Flamingo
    *D & 4 Q Bartenders are the best
*Gambled at Golden Nugget, Golden Gate, El Cortez, Fremont, Binions, Flamingo
    *Downtown Crowded & loud
*Downtown Panhandlers hitting new lows holding signs with The F Word, really, thanks ACLU saw at least 4 a day
*4 bets on next years NCAA football champion Texas, A&M, West Virginia, & The Field, not smart but I am on the board.
*Met some nice people couple from Canada, Guys from Nebraska, man from Minn, Couple from Laughlin
    * Coffee by elevator at The D , great, kids do neat job.
    * Vue Bar at D was so much quieter this trip as was Long Bar during the daytime.
*What is the future of downtown with 2,000 new rooms by late 2020??
*Viva Las Vegas, we love you

Thanks for reading Bobby & Martie Smithville , Texas

I appreciate your obvious & genuine love for LV that comes out in your report.
We keep getting comp offers from The D but have yet to stay. One of these days I'd like to split up a trip between strip/ downtown for a change, best of both worlds!

Good luck in September you two!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments & thoughts., they are appreciated.

momnkid late Sept is likely since our anniversary is Sept 29, will post on roll call & be added to the goat collection.

aprilroncincy love downtown, but concerned about recent trends & adding 2000 rooms by 2020.

bebe try The D for a few nights, next trip will; probably split time between D & Flamingo, first trip to Las Vegas early 1990s job related, stayed at Mirage saw Righteous Brothers at Desert Inn, seeing all the lights, machines, booze, beautiful people my mind was blown & I was hooked & as the saying goes "the rest is history"

tringlomane plan to bust that bad streak next trip.

    Thanks again

Sorry you didn't do well on this trip, better luck in Sept, you are going to meet up with quite a few VFers in Sept. Maybe you guys should have a party or group play and a group picture? Good Luck to you and all who are going in Sept.

Loved your overall post trip report ! We have never stayed downtown so I always love hearing about it from fellow VFers!! I have to say... hell my hubs and I are thrilled when we come back with 50% of BR intact......,though maybe that just shows how poor we do in Vegas. Haha.
I have a quick lil “ for thought” regarding flying Sw.... last time we went ( March) we skipped the 50 early bird and opted to upgrade at the checkin counter for 50 instead which guarantees a A1-15 boarding. Something to consider.:) ...if your anything like me... I need off that plane ASAP upon landing ( hell those machines are just calling my name haha) best of luck on your return trip in Sept!!

Glad to see you had fun despite the sub-par gambol.

But hey, these trips happen, they don't build these wonderful casinos on the backs of winning gamblers after all.

Just think, on your next trip, you might be on the good side of the standard deviation.

Thanks for the summary. Good stuff.

Thanks Wisco & Nick for your kind comments, Wisco will try your early boarding technique next trip, probably late Sept for anniv. & college football. please anyone but Alabama or Clemson. Will split time between The D & Flamingo, the best of both worlds. Looking forward to trip reports from both of you, you all have so much fun & write such entertaining TRs. Viva Las Vegas
