What is an acceptable gift for a host? On a trip last year, I left a card with a small amount of cash for my host at the Grazie desk. She contacted me during my trip to say she could not accept cash and she was applying the money to my room folio. This trip, I left her an AmEx gift card. Same procedure, left at the Grazie desk. I just received an email from her stating she cannot accept that either and they are returning the gift card to me in the mail. That’s so crazy! What is an acceptable process for gifting your host? She has said that she isn’t allowed on the casino floor, so meeting her there seems to be out. I really would like to thank her in some way, but it seems as though I’m failing miserably. How do you thank your host?

My host there meets us out on the floor or in one of the lounges when there is enough time. I don't do cash, but I always bring a nice bottle of wine or local booze since she loves it and we have over 250 bottles so we love giving some away when appropriate.

I have sent my host a digital Amazon gift card in the past and will be sending another for our upcoming trip. She never mentioned having a problem accepting the gift and even mailed me a wonderful thank you card that I received when I got home. She has met me on the casino floor when our schedules aligned and she keeps in contact by cell phone when we are in town. Maybe in your case, she could give you a personal email?

She truly turned my host thinking around 180 degrees and I am so grateful we work with her. Thanks Cosmo.

Could two casinos have such a differing opinion on how host relationships should work? Ok, I just asked that but I already know the answer. My CET host fought with me in the past so yes, casinos can have drastically different ideas on how customers should be treated.

Thanks for the replies. The "host" situation is new to me, and she has been very nice and helpful making sure my Grazie account is loaded with offers. I wanted to thank her, and honestly, I'm baffled. Her title at Venetian is "Casino Relationship Manager / Premium Player Relations", which I assume is a "host". Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, this is a quote from her email: "Unfortunately, due to our policy, we're not able to accept these gift cards. My management will be sending it back to you and it will take about 7-10 business days". I think that's just wrong. I'll call her some time and ask for a personal email address and try the e-gift. I'm assuming her work emails are monitored, and I sure don't want to get her in any trouble over a $50 gift.

Might want to consider flowers and silly as it may sound, homemade cookies. My experience either go a long way. The old thought that counts can mean mucho.

The can’t accept money and/or be on the casino floor strikes me as very odd especially not being on the floor. In my 30 yrs of dabbling in LV casinos I have never heard that one before. I frequently see just the opposite. Something strange here.

When I had my old host who was awesome by the way.. I always met him along restaurant row and upon greeting slipped him $100 bill when we shook hands. First time he was surprised but after that he knew the drill and was always appreciative not to mention always made the time to meet up. Someone else on the board posted about this and it seemed most people did $50. My new host hasn't done enough for me to give $100 let alone $50 but if she ever does I'll do $50 instead of $100 unless she does a 360 and knocks my socks off.

I should try the restaurant row handshake. That’s pretty clever. .
