I’m on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, and after hitting the deal button on the video poker machines it automatically holds the correct cards. Have you ever seen this before? Didn’t know the machines could do that. I don’t particularly like it though cause it turns VP into more of a slot machine.

Yes ive seen it. Im not a fan either. And sometimes those auto-holds have been incorrect in the past. They seem correct on the ship?

That would remove the mental stimulation. Good only for beginners or the lazy minded I suppose.

Maybe 95% correct. It didn’t seem to pick right on hands that deal 3 cards in the straight. It would hold, for example, queen clove, Jack clove, and 10 hearts. For one pair, 3 of a kind, two pair, etc it was correct.

I was on a Royal Caribbean ship in March and noticed they had machines doing it too, but not universally. I couldn't find a setting on the ones that were doing it, so I ended up defaulting to a machine that didn't autohold so I could make my own decisions :)

When Majestic Star in East Chicago, Indiana first went to their great vp paytables years ago, the machines had auto-hold. But if you touched the card or button for the held cards, it removed it.

It only lasted a few weeks. Enough people complained that they shut off the auto-hold.

Barona in San Diego does this for any VP machine that isn't the best paytable. So if the machine doesn't auto hold, it's got a good paytable! It does make it more of a slot which is disappointing.

Crazy. Majestic star still has pretty good VP.

Weird. Auto hold is also a sign of Class II. There aren't bingo cards on those games, right?

Definitely not Class II. They just have auto hold on the non-good paytables to take people's money faster. Barona really is a haven for video poker!

I agree I was just there and surprised that every game I found has the best paytables even at the quarter level

And yeah I noticed some games have auto hold and some did not still. They do have some class 2 slots there but the video poker is all class 3

Suspicious me also thinks they don't have autohold on the best paytables in the hopes that players make enough mistakes to make up for it in missed opportunities...

Symphony is only ship out of Allure, Harmony and Anthem that I have been on that had the auto-hold and it wasn't every machine. Was not a fan of it, and found I was reading my phone more than paying attention to the game.
