Wow, this year has been good in the form of a couple of Royal Flushes, multiple aces with kickers hands, and few handpays. But looking back on the year, I can't believe the number of near misses I had on the last trip to Vegas.

Like this one. Right after selecting my hold cards, I get a super times pay multiplier. Got all excited for the Royal and it fizzled out with a lowly flush on one hand. Almost dropped my phone when it popped up.

Great thread idea, it's always good to be reminded you're not the only one...

I don't have any Royal misses to post, not because I've been hitting them, but because I haven't seen 4 to a Royal in over 150,000 hands... I would even welcome a few misses at this point.

I guess these misses become that more painful on these multi hand games....So many more chances!

DAMN! Those trip deuces with a 10x multiplier had to really hurt and on a 10 play.

So statistically I ran the numbers from my gaming logs this year. I put up an unbelievable 4 Royal Flushes ( 3 on.25 and one $1 RF progressive), 7 aces with kickers on .25 vp, 6 Quad aces on DDBP ( 2 were at $1 level), 3 at .25 level and one Aces with Kicker on TDB for $1k. This was for around 11,000 hands of video pokers which is incredible for positive variance. I don't think I could have done better this year for the amount of play. I still had around 10 to 12 near missess as I call them for Royals with the most painful being a hold last week on DSTP tripple BDLX at .25 level. Dealt A of diamonds, 10 of diamonds, and King of spades. Held the A and K, and Q, J, K of diamonds filled in with 4 times multiplier.

Counter that with my Achilles heal. While I managed to pull down 3 hand pays this year, and 5 to 6 progressive wins of sub $1200 on penny and dollar slots.
So 95K Tier credits at CET and some other minor play still managed to put me far into the red as cash losses go, but still in my 10 to 13% entertainment budget.

Like most people probably, I think I got under comped and need to re-evaluate for less gaming sessions at higher bankroll to maximize comp return.

I actually feel the opposite way... in single line, your opportunities for big draws come along so rarely that missing a few in a row might mean hours without a single decent hit. It is really frustrating to miss in all ten spots on multi-line, but I rarely (knock on wood) go too long without hitting at least something, just enough to remind you that it is possible to make a big hand and keep you in the game...

Our opinions on this thread probably say something about what kind of gamblers we are... I don't want to speculate on exactly what since I love it...

Four royals and seven AWAK in 11,000 hands is an amazing run... hope it keeps going into next year...

If I would have gotten the jack it would have been over $2700 on a quarter royal.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't hit it. I have seen about 10 pics of AT suited being converted on various
forums. None have been the mathematically correct hold yet. Yours would have been since the royal was $2700.

    As for me...

Doh...no chance to hit it. The 2 was the next card off the deck. I had to hold the kings.

Had to break a wild royal for the "wacky" 5600 credit royal.

Tons of spade misses this year. Noteworthy because that is the only suit I haven't hit.

I don't practice as much as I should when it comes to VP but I definitely knew the AT was the correct hold because the royal was so high. My hubby doesn't like it when I don't always do that. He thinks you should always chase the royal so he pretty much always holds the AT. I'll let him know he's wrong

What is this game? You get to see the next card before you draw? How often does it actually change your play? I probably would never play just for this reason... this is so sad to look at...

It changes your play quite a bit. I'm sure I wasn't playing it perfectly either.

I looked into it in a bit more detail on videopoker.com in May 2015. I'm Vman96 in the thread below.

    http://forum.videopoker.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7239&PN=1

I'm not sure why I subject myself to that game really. I hit the "target hand" on a videopoker.com weekly contest the week I made that thread, but my other 99 hands weren't good enough to win a prize. :(

Thanks for posting that link... tons of tricky situations I didn't even think of. Definitely the thinking man's video poker, way too complicated for me... It would be interesting to know who this game is designed to appeal to. I assume most recreational players are looking to make big hands, and it seems like in most situations, the peek card changes your play by telling you when not to go for that big hand (as opposed to the pic above, which I guess is reassuring, but didn't change your play). A big part of the fun of VP is hoping for those longshots to come in. Maybe there are a bunch of situations where you have three to a royal and see the peek card is a fourth, so you end up going for more royals? Or if in the hand above the peek card was a 2 instead of an A, you'd toss the kicker and if the fourth A filled in, you'd be pretty happy you got to peek...

Here are my near misses from last night at the local...what made it worse is that both were already made hands...

After going four full trips without being dealt four to royal, I finally have some big misses to share:
    IMG_20161117_165125.jpg IMG_20161117_174214.jpg IMG_20161117_200839.jpg IMG_20161117_234131.jpg IMG_20161118_021137.jpg
Thankfully, it wasn't all bad though (don't want this thread to get too depressing):
    IMG_20161117_234140.jpg
And this is pretty much the opposite of a near miss, totally came out of nowhere: IMG_20161118_033537.jpg :
