Some airlines have already implemented the concept of "" your airfare cost is determined by your weight""".....

    copy and paste and link,,,

When Samoa Air announced it would begin charging passengers by weight, the airline industry buzzed with reports that overweight passengers should pay more for air travel. While the debate on passenger weight certainly isn’t new, airlines have been challenged to find ways to accommodate heavier travelers while pressured to sell seats and maintain customer safety and comfort.

So,some may pay very little for a seat (thin folks), and some may pay a fortune (hand pay) for a seat (larger folks).......

After reading the article, it seems to me that the market is reacting appropriately. The airlines are implementing policies they are willing to defend. We don't need a list of federal regulations regarding the size of the passengers.

In my opinion, the price should continue to be based upon moving a person from point "A" to point "B". If you don't fit in one seat, you might need to buy a second seat, fly first class or pay some type of surcharge for additional space.

I don't see any way the airlines would go to a "pay by weight" model. The PR would be unbelievably negative, and there would certainly be lawsuits.

There are other problems involved when "overweight passengers travel"
The most serious problem is, for the passengers who are seated next to a POS (person of size), their seats will be partly occupied by another.
This causes serious discomfort for hours on end, plus sitting squashed for long periods will increase the risk of DVT. This is apart from the imposition of feeling bullied into accepting part of what you paid for, being used by another.

Pay by weight, would be fair, as under the present system, a 180lb passenger will be asked to pay extra if their baggage exceeds the allowance but the 280lb passenger with baggage under the limit pays nothing extra but is still much heavier for the plane to carry.
Very large folks pay extra for larger clothing etc. so why not extra for their weight on a plane?

Finally, as the article states. most airlines do in fact have a POS policy but cabin staff regularly fail to enforce it. I feel this is because some large people can become quite aggressive, plus cabin staff are in an unpleasant situation, as nowadays in the 21st century, no one is allowed to say a person is old, short, bald or heaven forbid, fat. Even when they are.
Any employee who even suggested that a passenger was too large would be very aware of the consequences of a complaint even when the passenger in clearly a huge person.
This post is not meant to shame or embarrass large travellers, most travellers when they see a really large person, truly dread being seated next to them, it's not anti........whatever, it's just not wishing for a terribly difficult flight. Sadly as we all become bigger this problem will only become more widespread.
