What good does a host do?

I was playing blackjack in the high limit room at nyny back in September and had a host come give me his card and tell me he’d take care of me next trip. I made gold that night, first time I’d ever made a tier worth noting so I checked out my offers online and had every mgm property comped with me still having to pay resort fees at a couple of the higher end properties. Decided to go back in February so I texted my host with the dates and asked what he could do for me. He told me he could comp the nights in the same level room that I could get online for free through mlife. He didn’t even mention the $100 dining/room credit that the website offered. When he introduced himself to me I was surprised, I only bought in for a couple grand and was playing $100-$500 hands, most towards the lower end of that scale and assumed he just came up to me because they were desperate for players. What I’m wondering is are hosts normally able/likely to give you better offers than the online offers through mlife?

Yeah that's what they do sometimes. Other times yout ell them what you want asking for a lot and see if they say yes or no. But i did a 1 day trip in Nov to burn my comps. redeeming my $450 in freeplay at ParkMgm the host at the booth gave me her card and told me i could book through her next time. Don't know why she was there in the booth with the regular players club people. So sometimes they just hand em out.

I’ve always done better going through a host. Did you bring that up to him that your offers online were the same?

I did. Told him that I was going to check out other mgm properties first since what he was offering me was already available through mlife, and he said ok no worries. Figured their job was to get you to come to their specific casino but he did not seem to care either way. I thought at least I’d get an explanation of “this is why I can’t do anything more for you on these dates, normally I can do better than what the app offers.”

There's also sometimes the convenience factor. Depending on your play level, a nice perk can be being able to just text and say, "Can you set up a room for me?", "Can you get me a spot at [X Restaurant]?", "Can you get me an airport transfer?", etc. I'm personally a pick-up-the phone guy, but it appeals to a lot of people and also gives you a written record.
