All of those poor employees, businesses and owners that may never recover from the economic devastation happening. Keep those at risk at home let the rest of the world get back to whatever the new new will be...I do fear the in the end that the aftermath on people will be far worse than COVID ever was

If “they” would have said 120 days ago that “we” would face restrictions for this long already, with no specific end date in sight yet, at the cost of shutting down or crippling most of the economy, I don’t think so many people would have complied. We were told two weeks of total shutdown, that lasted ten+ weeks and what’s open now in Ontario is still pretty close to total shutdown when restaurants being open depends on the weather. Still no team sports so youth baseball programs across the province have already cancelled their seasons, soccer will be next and minor hockey in September is less than 50/50. The long term impact this is having on kids is never something “they” mention. Numbers wise we are back to where we were in March, so let’s use this as a do-over and do it right this time figuring how to live with this thing rather than running away from it.

From a business level, if what I heard is correct, the number of employees who’ve tested positive has probably left them without enough staff to run a restaurant for the time being. What won’t help them recover is leaving up a vague post about their closure and customers needing to look through random comments to figure out if they need to get tested or not. It also looks like many people with reservations went to the restaurant because they never received a call regarding the closure.

Well the squeaky wheel gets the grease today. New report from Toronto SickKids hospital (http://www.sickkids.ca/PDFs/About-S...mmendations-for-School-Reopening-SickKids.pdf), in it:

"The community based public health measures (national lockdown, school closures, stay at home orders, self-isolation etc.) implemented to mitigate COVID-19 and “flatten the curve” have significant adverse health and welfare consequences for children. Some of these unintended consequences include decreased vaccination coverage, delayed diagnosis and care for non-COVID-19 related medical conditions, and adverse impact on children’s behaviour and mental health. Increased rates of depression, trauma, drug abuse and addiction and even suicide can be anticipated."

And not to get too far off-topic, but premier Ford today, when asked about the border, said that New York and Michigan were #1 and #2 in the US for cases and that's the reason he doesn't want the border open. Well, first off Michigan isn't #2. It's either #9 (total cases) or #15 (cases per million). And second, while NY is #1 in both total cases and cases per million, well over 75% of those cases are in the NYC area - a 6+ hour drive from the border. On top of that, NY is doing better than Ontario in reducing their rates of new cases and infections.

I just wish the people making these decisions "based on the numbers" would actually look at the numbers and know them before speaking. Or, just tell us that you're making the decisions based on your gut feel. Ultimately the border question (and more specifically the quarantine act) is a federal mandate / decision, but Trudeau is being influenced by the premiers so it would be nice if they knew what they were talking about. This is another one of those inconsistent things - the border is 'closed' to non-essential traffic but yet there's a 14-day quarantine on the CAD side upon return. I know there's an air travel "loophole" but still - if the border is closed then ya don't need a quarantine rule for entering the country. The NHL really wants to have one of their hub cities in Canada - if pro hockey players get special exemption from the quarantine law I will lose it.

Southwest is keeping the middle seats open until September 30. Was supposed to be until end of July. This makes me feel better about my flight in August as long as SWA doesn’t change my flight again.

Casinos in Detroit still closed and will be limited to 15% capacity when they open (which honestly I think will change quickly once they open). Probably open by July 4.

We have Delta 1st Class seats for our September trip (because we had them for a trip planned "pre-COVID"). I've read recently that most major airlines have suspended alcohol service and food service is limited. Makes me wonder if we are wasting the tickets for a trip that will be less than "1st class". Also wondering about how it will be to wear a mask for 4+ hours on the plane. Hoping to read more TR's from folks that are traveling by plane which may help me convince my husband that it won't be too bad, but realize everyone's mask tolerance is different. Wishing for the days when all I needed to worry about was how I would fit all of my lotions and potions in 3 oz bottles. :-(

Good point about Delta. I think first class seating is limited to 50% capacity but no idea about food and beverage options. Southwest is going to give out a can of water and a cheezit mix on flights over 250 miles and that’s it.

On Tuesday, American Airlines and Delta Air announced that they will stop selling alcoholic beverages on flights. The announcement comes as airlines scramble to minimize interactions between crew and passengers and revise their food and drink service as a whole. European airlines Easyjet and KLM and Virgin Australia also announced that they were suspending drink service.

Delta Airlines won't serve alcohol on domestic flights or within the Americas, but beer, wine and spirits can be found on all other international flights. On American Airlines, food and drink service in the main cabin will be limited according to flight length and destination, and alcohol will only be offered on long international flights or to first class passengers on any flight.

Thanks. Seems like American will serve alcohol to 1st class, but not Delta.

Well that definitely sucks in every way - but if it means being open I'll take it. It's much, much harder to say "what can we do to make modifications and open" than to simply say screw it and stay closed. So I appreciate all efforts made towards opening.

And if @claired67 is right about Detroit casinos opening July 4, I sure hope CZR puts tons of pressure on the Ontario government to get their act together and 1) open Caesars Windsor (which would mean all the others in Ontario would be able to open too), and 2) get rid of the quarantine requirement for crossing the border. With the CDN dollar sucking as much as it is right now, would be great to bring some folks over from MI to shop & spend money.

@Mr2BOBCATS this is where I got my info about the dates-I was mostly interested in finding out if schools are opening in the fall (they are). Hopefully things keep improving in the area and it stays on track.
