Luckily I can get comps at Encore Boston but the thought of it being packed on a a weekend is not making me want to fly up there. I'm definitely not driving that far (appx 11 hrs from Raleigh?)

I don't have first hand information, but I doubt it's packed anytime. They're only charging $199 for Thurs & Sunday and $249 for Fri - Sat nights, that's 1/2 price.

Just looked and they changed the calendar overnight - the hotel will continue to be open Sunday nights in August. Still closed Mon - Tue - Wed nights.

Much like everything in Vegas these days, it's highly variable. I wouldn't even count on escalators being operational.

I went to Stripsteak last night, but (1) it was with two local friends and one out-of-towner that I'm very close friends with, (2) the restaurant was practically empty, and (3) all four of us had negative COVID-19 tests in the last few days (I have to go once a week). Obviously there's still risk, but it was one I was willing to take. At the risk of editorializing, we can't just stay at home forever. MGM is still being good about not letting anyone in the door without a mask on, and most of their patrons are being responsible. I would not under any circumstances go to a crowded bar or dayclub, though.

Many places and people are really taking this seriously, and there's a huge spike going on, but there are certainly people acting like toddlers.

I'm basically going to just go in for an hour and see what machines are on and if there's none I like, I'll try to find a host and see whether anyone has the authority to turn certain ones on if requested. I'll try to see what the tables are like, but it's going to be like 11:00am on Wednesday, so I dunno how representative it'll be. The website has info on what restaurants are open.

And then walk around the block. I'm not even gonna play, just scoping the place out to decide if it's worth it.

I thought MGM properties have done a good job as well. I def keep my distance from people while walking and wash my hands a lot. Def take advantage of hand sanitizer when leaving/entering a location.

Stripsteak is one of my favorites!

I had an appt. with my PCP today and he definitely cautioned me against going to Vegas in August.

Aria must also be hurting for business. My friend's friend got a room there the 3rd week of August for only $69 a night - that is crazy that they are doing that.

OK got back from Springfield. I was there from about 10:30 - 11:30am.

They had 5 machines I consider playable, that's enough to make me go there instead of AC.
    • Double Diamond 5-line 800 / 1,600 / 2,400 / 3,200 / 4,000 paytable, this is a really good machine, I saw one at .25 / .50 / $1 denom and a few at $1 / $2 / $5 denom. They also have one in HL at $10 / $25 / $100. This is newer (and slightly superior) version than the 5-line you often see in Vegas where the 5th coin pays a premium 5,000 instead of 4,000.
    • Pinball 3 coin at .25 / .50 / $1 / $2 denom
    • Buffalo Gold at .01 / .02 / .05 denom
    • Pharaoh's Fortune 15 lines at .05 minimum denom.
    • Davinci Diamonds $1 min denom in HL
    • They also had an original Cleopatra $1 denom in HL right next to Davinci in a bank of 5 machines, which meant the Cleo is disabled. I asked the HL attendant if anybody had discretion to enable a machine and disable others and he said no, gaming made the call. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not. I doubt gaming went around the floor and specified exact machines to turn off, it's a matter of spacing. I dunno, I'll find out for sure when I get there. No Cleo II anywhere. And it didn't seem like any of the video slots were multi-game (except VP), which is a real drawback when so many machines are off.
They had a stadium bacc, roulette and BJ setup but no games running.

For tables, they had LIR, 3CP, 4CP, UTH, Spanish 21, and 3:2 BJ all running at $5. Didn't see any PGP or bacc. Craps and roulette are not allowed currently.

I wasn't really looking for CWs, but I saw at least 4. Cashier said the casino is currently open 24 hrs. MLife desk was unstaffed. They have a buncha MLife kiosks, not sure what you can do on them.

The only entrance currently open is from the parking garage elevator lobby. I took the garage stairs instead of the elevator and walked all the way around the building before I realized, lol.

Should add that the casino floor is pretty dense/crowded in terms of machines and tables, the widest aisles are around the edges. But no issue with people spacing with so many machines shut off. But if and when it's ever packed, it'd be a pretty jammed up situation.

I've never seen it quite that low, but also not much higher.

As I think I've put it before, I think we're racing headlong into another shutdown. The other problem is that bars are closed, restaurants are limited, and tables have extremely limited capacity. Definitely not disputing the need for it, but on multiple occasions I have literally been unable to find an open spot at blackjack or craps.

Got back from a week at Cosmo on Saturday. Following are a few of my impressions:

    - my plane fare on Southwest out of Midway was only $100 nonstop round trip. I was happy middle seats were empty but honestly have to say I felt like I was riding the subway in Chicago. I’m sure the price had a lot to do with that. Just as we were about to take off security tried to remove an unruly passenger but they were unable too so the whole plane had to unboard with all your luggage. The police were called and they were able to get the unruly passenger off. Then we had to go through the whole boarding process again. It was a hassle but better than riding with this guy all the way to Vegas.

    - limo was waiting and the driver told me I could remove my mask while riding until we got to the hotel.

    - thought I would have my temperature checked but no one was checking them in VIP or anywhere else that I could see.

    - Security was at the Boulevard Tower elevators but the guard just stood there and wasn’t checking room keys or elevator capacity. I tried avoiding crowded elevators going up but it was pretty impossible coming down from my room.

    - wearing face masks in the casino wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was able to smoke and drink without many problems. Attendants were vigilant about asking people to wear masks.

    - I did notice that attendants were also regularly cleaning machines. Hand sanitizers were scattered throughout. However there were no masks or sanitizers in my room.

    - a lot of the restaurants were closed Monday thru Wednesday. I finally got to have my octopus appetizer at Milos on Thursday but was a little disappointed when I asked for butter for my bread and the restaurant didn’t have any butter.

    - I had one meal at the Wicked Spoon. I went to the identity desk for a free one since I was solo but all they would give me was the by one get one free coupon. I just charged it to my room to avoid any conflicts. I must say the food was pretty good although the selection is smaller.

    - I thought the slots would be very tight but found them to be normal. I did hit three handpays during the trip and though I didn’t come home a winner I only ended up losing less than a grand which is winning for me. All my room charges were covered.

    - I really enjoyed my trip and glad I went. Vegas was pretty empty and I’m trying to figure out how they are managing to stay open. My driver back to the airport told me how happy he was to be working for Cosmo because they paid his family health insurance while they were closed.

    - final thought, it’s pretty impossible to social distance in a casino.

Last thought - as of now I’m not having any virus symptoms and feel fine however I am quarantining for 14 days just to be safe and not infect anyone.

16 days until our trip....which we are now second guessing. Are we crazy for thinking this is a good idea My mom who watches the news both Canadian and American if CNN counts 24/7 thinks we are insane to think it’s a good idea to travel to the states. With that being said if a casino was open here she’d be there opening day My biggest concern right now is getting to the airport and not getting through customs as it’s not essential travel. My mom also has this theory that air travel may shut down and we’ll get stuck there

You can still cancel without penalty until the last day right? Everything is "wait and see" if you ask me.

Cook County (the county surrounding Chicago) where we currently live now follows Chicago's quarantine orders. So Vegas for M's birthday in September looks a lot less likely now. :(

Yes we can cancel our flight and take a credit if we decide to cancel. We have a hotel booked at LAX for our layover which we can cancel up until August 5th (August 8th arrival). We have to quarantine for 14 days when we return. I’d hate to take 3 weeks off and then not go. I would have to rearrange multiple schedules for work if I don’t go

That's the most complicated things to do, rearrange , replan ...etc... where we live, most of people have definitely cancelled their vacation (trip) and stay home (again..).

It's been almost two full weeks since our local was allowed to open and they have not yet stated any plans to do so. It's crazy. I'm betting that when Windsor-Essex goes to Stage 3 in 10 days that Caesar's Windsor opens day 1, and that our local still will not have been opened.
