So I'm a reader of the Review Journal online, I like to keep up with Vegas news. I feel like every few months there's a story of a guy who met two girls at a bar at the Wynn, took them up to his room, and he wakes up later robbed of his $75,000 watch realizing he was drugged. It's like clockwork.

I'm not a jewelry/watch wearer, and couldn't fathom wearing something that expensive on me.....but fellas, the track record is there.....if you are wearing a watch of this value and hanging out at a Wynn bar and ladies show some interest in you......it's probably not going to end well.

    Consider this a PSA :)

Leave the good watch at home, lock it up in the in-room safe if you plan to be up to no good, or (some people really do this) wear a fake so if you get trickrolled at least you're only out $500-$600.

Being a married guy with no interest in extra-curricular activity, when I wear a nice watch in Vegas my main concern is having it stolen off my wrist. It helps that my nice watches are the type that only someone who's really into watches will recognize. I don't own a Rolex (still waiting for my AD to come through...) but if I did I'd be pretty careful about wearing it in Vegas. Like, only when we are having a fancy dinner and staying on the property that night.

Remember when there were stories of men getting locked out on the terraces of Cosmo by women they invited to their rooms?

I do not care how consenting adults spend their time, but be careful and safe. Have fun, be cautious.

I must have missed those, but that's fantastic.

I barely allow people I know well to be in my condo unsupervised. If I was in a Vegas hotel with an expensive watch, I wouldn't even think about it. And I say this as someone who doesn't have anything particularly valuable at home; other than a couple nice suits, I think the priciest thing I own is a Mets jersey. Or maybe my law school diploma. My watch, meanwhile, is a Samsung Galaxy, but I spent a whole $1.99 on a nice watch face and I've gotten asked by people in Crystals if it's a Tag.

    As @44inarow 's tag says,
    Cool Story Bro

If she's been busted 3 times now and still at it I wonder how many total she pulled off.
Now I'm too petrified to wear my "for the lulz" fakes, especially here in LA, where you'll get a gun in your face or followed home.

That's the smart move AyDee. I'm sure you already know what I'm about to say, but maybe it'll help someone else here.

The online watch enthusiast community is full of stories about luxury watch theft, sometimes via pickpocket/sleight of hand but more often through violence, in big cities all over the world. LA, London, and NYC seem to be the worst, although I suspect some bias since those cities are where most of the big watch bloggers and YouTubers are located. And by "bias" I mean that all the stories are clearly true/real, but watch thefts in other places (like Las Vegas) may be underreported, less visible or noteworthy, since those thefts are not local news for a watch blogger.

I feel like life is so much easier when I don't have to worry about people looking at something I'm wearing as being really expensive or the car I'm driving as something they want to steal. I'm OK with being low budget in those categories, would rather spend my money on experiences.

I don't really see the point of strutting around with thousands of dollars strapped to my wrist saying hey look at me, but people like different things I guess. And some of them do look really cool so I do get it, just not my thing and certainly not something I'd bother with in Vegas when you know you'll be around some sketchy folks.....

It’s always curious to me. That on some things the victim is shamed. Yet on other things a potential perpetrator is deemed guilty before the facts are discussed.

Yeah, if it is considered shaming the victim to say "what were you thinking", put me down in that camp. I'd do the same to someone who stepped in front of a moving train. I'd feel terrible for them, but you have to make better choices if you want to avoid bad things.
