It’s difficult to believe that a 7 night Vegas trip went by so quickly, but as with all Vegas trips, it was time to make that inevitable trip back to the airport before I knew it. Overall it was a losing trip for me, but it was awesome to hit that $1,000 win on Game of Thrones my first night…on an 80 cent bet, no less. As for video poker, the DSTP multipliers came up pretty frequently, but this trip I just wasn’t able to connect the multipliers with any premium quads. Speaking of quads, the quad 2s, 3s, and 4s seemed to come up unusually infrequently for me this trip. That said, I did hit AWAK 4 times, which was a nice surprise.

Gambling aside, I’m so happy that I was able to meet up with @Mr2BOBCATS, @Mrs2BOBCATS, and @GlenCoco this trip. I enjoyed a nice VP session with the Bobcats crew at Chandelier north on Wednesday evening, and as a native Canadian myself, it’s always great to meet fellow VFers from up north. I had always assumed that I would end up running into @GlenCoco at the HL bar at some point, so I was quite surprised when he showed up and introduced himself while I was playing at Chandelier on Thursday afternoon. Nice to chat and enjoy some VP with you, @GlenCoco!

Even though the bartender schedule and lineup at Chandy has completely shifted on account of the post-COVID shift rebids, it’s still, by far, my absolute favorite spot for VP anywhere. While unfortunately the days of enjoying the company of Grant, Greg, and Ed at Chandy north during the evenings and late nights is now a thing of the past, it’s great that Greg and Ed are still at Chandy, albeit during the day and early evening. And, with Grant now working 2A - 10A at the HL bar, I can catch up with him in the mornings.

As for evenings at Chandy, unfortunately one of my favorite bartenders Attila (who had been at the Sports Bar for a long time before moving to Chandy) has also moved to the HL bar, working evenings. Aside from barback Bobby, there were very few familiar faces working Chandelier in the evenings. Some of the newer Chandy bartenders I didn’t really warm up to (and they didn't seem to be all that attentive), but I did strike up an acquaintance with Shea and Brandon who were both awesome. Brandon used to work at Vesper and is very crafty at mixing custom cocktails, so I look forward to spending evenings at Chandelier with these two during future trips.

Thanks to everyone for following along, and to everyone who contributed to the trip report. Can’t wait to start planning another Vegas trip…hopefully it will be sooner rather than later!

I may be in the minority, but I really like the buzz buttons. Usually I ask for a couple of extras when I order a Verbena, then space them out as I'm sipping on the cocktail. In this case, Ed gave me a few more than I asked for :)

Out of curiosity, @Mr2BOBCATS, does this win/loss statement update in real time, or does it only update once a day? I keep track of my daily wins/losses on a spreadsheet on my phone, but this is a nice cross-reference.

It seems to be nearly real-time. I know when I check multiple times in a day it will update throughout. Just haven’t checked how much of a delay there is, if any.

Doing some number crunching today to figure out how much all this fun ended up costing us. Most of this is using our credit card statements so this is in CDN currency. I've grouped it by category to keep it simple(r).

    COVID-19 Testing - $468.48
Includes my rapid antigen test required to get into the US by air, and both of our PCR tests which are required to get into Canada. Interestingly, we were not given any tests upon arrival or any instructions about doing so.

    Travel - $1,828.57
Includes our roundtrip non-stop flight on Spirit from DTW to LAS, my flight on Air Canada from YYZ to DTW, roundtrip airport transportation via Presidential to Cosmo, parking for 6 days at DTW, five taxi / Uber rides, and bridge tolls.

    Shows - $434.57
Only one show for us this trip, Absinthe

    Gifts - $364
Just some shirts and other Vegas stuff for the kids and to thank people who supported things back home when we were gone.

Food & Drink (not at Cosmo) - $194.18
Includes drinks at Nine Fine Irishmen, "lunch" at Ghirardelli's, lunch at Resorts World, and other snacks. The FIL paid for Battista's, Bacchanal, and Gallagher's. He also paid for the Laugh Factory and for Slotzilla.

Food & Drink, Spa, Rooms (at Cosmo) - $2,356.37
Includes 3 nights paying for the FIL's room at Cosmo, a Spa treatment, Secret Pizza, Eggslut, District (twice), Holstein's, Va Bene, Beauty & Essex, Zuma, and The Henry. These were trickier to keep track of since we had a $50 F&B credit and bought a $1000 gift card to pay for most of the room charges.

Total non-gambling, out of pocket costs - $5,646.17 CDN. Or $12 US at the current exchange rate :)

In other words, a little under $500 per person, per day. The more you break it down, the better it sounds. It's like $20 / hour per person! But for us this is definitely a tad more than normal but not off the charts.

Gambling was about a $5k USD loss, most of that at Cosmo but also lost a bit at Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Mirage, Flamingo. Won a bit at Resorts World and Carnival Court, and broke even at Circa. Hard to figure out exactly the total loss since we brought cash for gambling but used it for other things along the way (some tips, pinball museum, etc) and I think we brought a bit back, just not very much. That's more than we'd normally budget for a trip gambling-wise, but not crazy more, plus it was a day longer than normal.

So a bit over $10k total for the trip, aka $1k per person per day.

So did we get our money's worth? Well, the 10 nights in the hotel alone has a normal rate around $3500. We probably had 30 premium cocktails between the floor and the bars, over a hundred hours of "paid for" (ie. gambling, shows) entertainment combined, and a slew of meals which ranged from just OK to absolutely fantastic. Plus meeting and hanging out with @YOleven was another added benefit (we really need to make more time for VF meetups!).

I'm not sure how to quantify the benefits of all this, but let's just say the "utility" of fun, food, drinks, and the room was $9k. Was it worth another grand for @Mrs2BOBCATS to hang out with her dad for a week and sneak in a dinner with her brother on the way down?

    To quote @Riders,

    Fuck. Yeah.

I couldn't understand how you crossed the border by car, now I understand you simply get back home from Detroit with wife...
Thanks great TR and great $ recap :)

@Mr2BOBCATS well done with the math. I think we can all justify the costs win or lose. I think "utility" is a good word to use, or just quote @Riders . Either way, Vegas is ALWAYS fun.

The $$ for Covid testing sucks. When we traveled to Negril in March, we had to have a test 48 hours prior coming and going. No CVS or Walgreens would guarantee that turn around time so we paid $450 for a ten minute test here. On our return, the same test in Negril was $100--and they came to our hotel. Honestly, I just told hubs we had to suck it up and pay. (Both fully vaccinated at the time) The real kicker--they only looked at our tests on departure at ORD--no one in JA looked.

Glad so much fun was had by all. So, now time to plan for October! :)

@YOleven great report and congrats on making platinum! Lots of great drink pics. I love a good French 75.... I think that shall begin my August trip. The trip where I land at 9:30AM! I've decided to join my sis in VP and start at the Chandy. It will be long day. Must begin correctly. Sorry we didn't connect!

Great report with so much fantastic detail, thanks! Totally agree with you on the concept of how do you quantify time (priceless of course), whether it be with a spouse/partner, parents, friends, etc.. You can't. Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow, we only have right now so plan well, travel well and enjoy life.

Cheers! It was great to meet both of you, and hopefully you'll be able to return to Vegas sooner than you think. Looks like many of the travel restrictions for vaccinated individuals will hopefully be lifted on both sides of the border in late August or September, so hopefully planning your next trip will be a little less complicated!

Soooo, remember that wrap up I said I'd add? Well I got home and life just got busy and I think I've forgotten a bunch but I did take a crap load of pictures!

Friday, July 9, my bday. We checked into our fountain view panoramic suite at PHo, unpacked and went to Nacho Daddy for dinner. Hubby's first time there. Yummy. After dinner we went to Bally's to play in the high limit. Hubs played mostly top dollar I played some lightening links. The one I called budha belly was kind of my ATM for the weekend, especially the one at Paris.

Saturday we played at PHo after breakfast and meeting up with our host for awhile. We really miss being able to sit an visit with her in the diamond lounge but she always finds us in the floor and hangs out awhile. We brought her a box of candy from a local candy maker here in town.
After she left us I hit these.

I don't remember what else we did Saturday but that night ate at Wahlburgers and played mostly at Paris.
More Buddha belly for me, twice I filled on all the blanks except for one, dang it...not sure how I didn't get pics of those!

Sunday we had breakfast at the Henry. Great waiter suggested I get the half order of French toast, good call! Hubby wanted white bread toast with his meal, they upcharged us $2.50! I had birthday dinner at Mastro's. Always good. Back to my Buddha after dinner. 20210711_202814.jpg 20210712_104708.jpg

Monday we are breakfast at MAG, then I got my only "hand pay" of the trip...not sure why they did it as a hand pay, but no W2G so YAY. checked out resorts world and then tier matched at Wynn. Check the marble out in the bathroom in the HL.
I had a good run for the weekend, $40k coin in and came home with $100 less than I started with. Seems to be the theme of my 2021 trips. Hubs didn't fare as well but we had a good time.
I do have to say FAIL Caesar, we had this great suite and the glasses in the bar area were all plastic. I hate plastic cups. Thank goodness I brought my own yeti wine glass thing for my room mimosas!
