First of three - No Pain No Gain Posts - Pictures of the three downtown casinos & Golden Goose Strip Club razed to make room for Circa and the expansion of the Golden Gate. https://twitter.com/VitalVegas/status/1481146033073623041 Second and Third Posts - No Pain No Gain - Flamingo & O'Sheas. https://twitter.com/VitalVegas/status/1481146711531683840 https://twitter.com/VitalVegas/status/1481148841013350401 Felt and heard Flamingo would be the casino Harrahs/Caesars/El Dorado moved, thought Cromwell would go with it to maximize the sales value for land/location of a new resort. Flamingo closed their poker room after the WSOP (Caesars' poker room is rumored to be closed sometime in 2022) so I have no reason to go back there beyond taking a few photos when I return. That said, still sad that the last OG strip casino may be gone soon. Given how that guy works, it means absolutely nothing. And were these dates meant to represent the hotel opening? Circus Circus opened the casino in 1968. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circus_Circus_Las_Vegas
The Flamingo of today looks pretty much nothing like the one built in 1946. Same goes for CP and even the Trop.
Hotel/Motel AND Casino required for my list. Others places had an operating hotel but did not open a casino until after 1971. For example, Flamingo Capri > Imperial Palace > The Quad > Linq opened as the Flamingo Capri in 1959, but did not open a casino onsite until 1972. Not having both would make the list unwieldy, and also not conform to what most people consider a Las Vegas Resort. There were many stand-alone hotels, and also small casinos like "Little Caesars, Leroy's Sports Books, and other mom and pop joints offering one or the other on the Strip well before what many consider the modern day Strip era (post Mirage 1990-2022). Some stand alone hotels are still be found between Fremont Street and Sahara Ave, and also a few hotel / time share properties remaining on the Strip (Jockey Club, Polo Towers, etc.).
