The Great Escape (Cosmo 6-8, semi-live)

So! The time is upon us! (Well, upon me. I don't know what you're doing with your life.)

Vegas is here! (Okay, not HERE here. I'm not there yet.)

(I will stop with the parentheticals.) (Maybe.)

This was supposed to be a delightful couple-of-days getaway to meet up with my folks (who are flying in from the Chicagoland area) and get a little R & R (that stands for Rchampagne and Rgambling - the R is silent) before I returned to complete the writing on a couple of projects that are a (#*$@#@#%!! of work but keep me in things like house payments and Vegas bankrolls. But something so bizarre happened that no one could have imagined it, so said project is not happening. At least not right now. Which makes things a little more panic-y over here at Cherry Cordial HQ.

But we're gonna forge ahead, because Vegas ain't for quitters. (And also the plane ticket is paid for, the room is comped, and I have a bunch of other projects.) I was going to just add to the group trip report, but I figure if I start my own, it'll force me to actually write something while I'm there. Plus my laptop and I are attached to the hip. (It makes it difficult to buy pants.)

Plans: Scarpetta & The Henry (yes, every day. My parents like what they like and honestly, it's easier when they're comfortable.) Some HL DSTP, some slotting around, multiple vats of bubbly and hopefully minimal calls to my agent whilst in my cups. (Tho the line is set at two.)

Will I remember how to post using tapatalk? Will I remember I started a trip report at all? Will I throw it all away and start over as a cocktail waitress? Who can say? (Hopefully me, but I promise nothing....)

 

Ha! Definitely do! But I’ll still be surprised. Having blue hair makes it difficult to be incognito….

FIRST BLOOD: Mom called as I was walking out the door to head to the airport to say their flight was canceled and their were no more Vegas flights out of Midway until tomorrow. In the 15 minutes it took to get to Burbank airport, I had them rebooked on a United flight out of O’Hare in a few hours.

But I can’t call it a win until they reimburse me because same day travel is $$$. Ooof.

Honey, I’m home!

Parents are in their rebooked flight. Boyfriend was in car accident back in LA that totaled his car but he is unhurt. Is that a win? Who even knows anymore? (It’s a win.)

We’ll, gambling was terrible and then I was crawling my way back and I went to check on my parents and dad had a medical emergency. They don’t know what’s wrong and we weren’t allowed in the ambulance and I also dropped at $400 TITO in the aftermath so excuse my French but this day can go fuck itself.

So it turns out his blood pressure dropped dangerously low. It was freaky as he was totally unresponsive. He wasn’t even drinking. But he’s got fluids and we’re heading back to Cosmo shortly. Tho in his words “I like it here (at the hospital), they’re actually interested in me.” So he’s definitely back.

Pretty sure I dropped the $400 Tito when I was getting a cab for my mother & I because the line was hella kind and they made me show my platinum card to skip the line.

Seriously, this day. I think they’re discharging him soon. Spring Valley Hospital gets five stars!

Thanks all for the kind words. As a writer, I’m used to having stories take weird turns, but this was…unexpected. And because now dad is okay, I can make the joke that I’m glad it wasn’t more serious because then I’d have to find a different hotel to Vegas at.

Off to gamble. And eat. AND HAVE AN UNEVENTFUL DAY.
