I've never seen any customers I would label as "sketchy' but the resort shows its age. It's a middle tier MGM property. IMO, its on par with CP, other than the aforementioned Skyloft and Mansion areas. I think part of the reason might just be the sheer size. The place is so damn huge its hard to keep everything looking fresh and new. That said, i still stay there a couple times a year and I wouldn't discourage anyone else from doing so.

Agreed but a facility like abellagi does a much better job keeping up with it, for example i am sure that 10 times the amount of people walk through the Bellagio lobby and it still looks good and you dont see the revolving doors or other doors hanging off the hinges.

Im not just picking on MGM, planet hollywood seems rundown, ballys, harrahs. I guess i expect more upkeep when you are taking peoples money, but i guess i need to remember that its 2018 and these are extremley large publicly traded companies that are more worried about turning a profit than having a pretty location. Also the strip is obviously monopolized by MGM and CET so that means no independant competition to keep them on their toes.

Could you imagine the upkeep of properties, the offers, the attention we would get if the strip consisted of all individually owned casinos.

I totally get that. I would be a lot more cautious if I were in Vegas alone. It's unfortunate but the reality of things.

Well, I feel totally safe/my second home, at my $500 buy in slot tournaments, (Mbay, Bellagio) I have soooo many slot tournament friends from years and years (back to 03) and although I'm solo, I'm never lonely. However, I don't travel downtown solo. Although I keep getting asked back to Golden Nugget for slot tourneys (did a few)..I just haven't been back in about 4 years? I do enjoy the slot tournament crowd at the Nugget,,,totally different than strip. Lovely people. And TONS of money down there. I just don't quite feel safe going outside solo cruising the different casinos.

That's exactly why I like V/P. I feel incredibly safe there travelling solo. The restaurants are great too. Now that I am trying out Cosmo in a few days, I will see if it feels any different on the other end of the strip.

Good girl. I have people at Cosmo and have stayed there maybe only 5 or so times? (previous casino hosts, management etc.) You will feel safe at Cosmo. No worries there. Good luck girl!

Thank you so much! I am excited to try out Cosmo. I love the modern look and the artwork...definitely my style. V/P is serene and peaceful but I love the look and overall feel of Cosmo even though I am older than the average guest : )

I think the thing with MGM is that (1) they probably have the highest delta between the low-end rooms (like West Wing, etc.) and the high-end rooms (like the Skylofts), and (2) it's one of the most spread-out casino floors (other than the Mansion). They've also struggled a bit with their identity over the decades, since it was built as a "theme" hotel during the family-friendly era and then had to transition quite dramatically. I do think they have one of the best restaurant collections in all of Las Vegas, rivaled only by CP, Aria, and Cosmo; on the other hand, I've also consistently encountered sub-par craps dealers and so don't play there that much these days.

You should check out Palms, as well. I can't speak to the rooms or the restaurants, but they put a ton of effort into their art program during the renovation. Aria also has a lot of great art on display, but a lot of it is sort of hidden in plain sight (I have a feeling a very small percentage of visitors realize that the big silver squiggle behind the front desk is a sculpture of the Colorado River by Maya Lin, or that the scrolling display down by the north valet is a Jenny Holzer piece).

The Mansion is legit. The one and probably only time I’ve been there was kind of surreal. I have to imagine the Wynn Villas are one of the only equivalents.

That being said, I don’t like the property overall. Too large. It’s a labyrinth. Cosmo is the right size for me.

I can totally relate. I've been doing Aria tournaments for 3 or 4 years and now have so many tournament friends. I run into them all weekend on the casino floor - and actually play with some of them from time to time :)

10 years ago, I loved it. Recently stayedfor the first time in years for the HGS event and couldn't believe how sad it had become. My previous experience was lively and trendy.

Now, way fewer games and players, poor drink service and low quality drinks. It's certainly not what it used to be. Sad, as it was iconic and quintessential Vegas.

Never have stayed at MGM but have visited the casino and walked through it on many visits.....It's like the cast of Floribama Shores showed up with all of their friends. Pretty disgusting...

One thing that really disappoints me about Cosmo is no security at elevators checking for room keys. I really wish they would change that. For that reason if I was travelling solo I would stay at Aria or Palazzo

We really enjoy it there. They have wonderful restaurants, large number of gaming choices and our rooms have always been nice. Not to mention we like the lively atmosphere and pools.
